Cohen Higgins is microscopically focused on the newly opened SW 87th Avenue bridge in Palmetto Bay as evidence of “easier commutes.”
But Miami-Dade County’s own traffic study projected the opening of the bridge only results in an average reduction of one minute per vehicle each way for the few cars who can use the bridge.
Two minutes saved on a two-hour commute does not alter the daily grind for South Dade residents.
It's hardly a transportation revolution worth boasting about.
More importantly, the bridge does not eliminate traffic. It just moves a few cars onto already congested surface streets.
And it does nothing to ease traffic on our overloaded expressways.
Cohen Higgins held a bridge ribbon cutting. But a ribbon cutting is not proof of an easier commute.
Do we really want this kind of failed leadership for the next 4 years?
